India, the land of faith and spirituality is studded with a cluster of astonishing temples which makes the land pulsated with the immense devotion of the pilgrims. The air of this spiritual land is filled with the fragrance of incense sticks and camphor and one can also witness tolling of bells here. According to Hindu mythology, there are seven holy pilgrimage centers or seven holy tirthas which are collectively called Sapta Puri were gods in their various incarnations have descended. These are considered to be the holy centers where one visits to attain salvation or Moksha. Tirtha has been derived from the Sanskrit words Tri which mean free from all the sins and curses and Ayodhya, Haridwar, Mathura, Varanasi, Dwarka, Ujjain, and Kanchipuram are the cities that collectively form this religious pilgrimage.

The seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu and also the birthplace of Lord Rama makes Ayodhya one of the seven holiest cities in India which is situated beautifully in Uttar Pradesh and on the riverbank of Sarayu. Also called as Ram Janmabhoomi, Ayodhya is the city boasting more than 100 temples where Kala Ram Temple and the Kanak Bhawan are the two highly significant temples here. Also called Saket, Ayodhya is believed to be discovered by Manu who is known as the creator of Hindu ideologies.

How to reach Ayodhya?

The nearest airport to reach this Ram Janmabhoomi is in Lucknow which is located at a distance of 130 km and if you are coming by railways then book your train tickets to Ayodhya Railway Station. Roads of this city are properly maintained so going via roadways is not at all a good idea.

 

Mathura, Uttar Pradesh

The second oldest city of India has been plundered and renovated several times and it is pretty fair to state that this holy city has attacked by every non-Hindu rulers whether we talk about Huns or various Mughal Rulers. Also called Krishna Bhumi, Mathura is the city that is immensely rooted in the life of Lord Krishna and as mentioned in the holy epics that become crowned as a charioteer and a renowned ruler, Lord Krishna used to reside on this holy land.

This ancient city is also reckoned as an industrial hub and a popular trading port where silk fabrics, ivory works, perfumes, and sculpture. Also called Shiv Ki Nagri, Varanasi is the city where Manikarnika Ghat is located where Lord Shiva cremated Sati ceremoniously and Manikarnika is the Ghat where Hindus gather and weep for their loved ones and also to perform certain rituals to respect their ancestors.

Dwarka, the holy city is Gujarat is believed to be built by the grandson of Lord Krishna around 2000 years ago. This huge temple is constructed and supported on 72 massive pillars and is counted as the most astonishing architectural grandeur of Lord Krishna. This gorgeous temple in Dwarka symbolizes the cycle of birth and death and holds a great place in Hinduism.

How to reach Dwarka?

If you want to Visit Gujarat then one of the most convenient ways of reaching would be to reach Jamnagar airport which is the nearest airport to Dwarka located at a distance of 45 kilometres from the destination city and also the city boasts its railway station.

 

Kanchipuram, Tamilnadu

The ancient city of Tamilnadu is believed to be constructed during the 6th and 8th centuries by the Pallava dynasty. This is the only holy site in Sapta Puri that is dedicated to Goddess Parvati who performed a deep meditation here and rewarded herself with marriage to Lord Shiva. There is interesting mythology associated with the origin of this holy spot that states once while Parvati was meditating and praying to the Lingam under a mango tree then the neighboring river overflowed and to save that mud lingam Parvati embraced it and put her life in danger. Lord Shiva was very happy with her devotion and granted her the wish she had.

How to reach Kanchipuram?

This beautiful and spiritual city is not so far from Chennai and one needs to cover the distance of almost 69 km via Chennai- Bangalore expressway.

 

Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh

It is one of those cities whose recorded history dates back to centuries back i.e. around 3rd century BCE. The Mahakaleshwar Temple, the icon of Ujjain is one of the major important reasons behind Madhya Pradesh tourism and especially Ujjain where thousands of tourists flock every year. Also, the only south-facing Shivalinga Mahakaleshwar is located here and Sri Swapneshwar Mahadev Temple is also the charm of this city where devotees come with an immense belief of wish fulfillment but there is a belief and saying that if you are not pure at heart then your wish never gets fulfilled.

Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport is the nearest airport to Ujjain and the city also boasts a railway station with the same name.
