Exploring UK: A Structured 8-Day Family Trip to London, Glasgow, and Edinburgh

Eight days. Three cities. One structured plan that balanced exploration with energy for a family of four, including a five year old child.

When we planned this trip, the goal was simple. Cover key places without exhausting ourselves. This is exactly how the journey unfolded.

Best time to visit: May to September works best. We travelled in June, and the longer daylight hours made a significant difference.

London

Day 1
We landed in London and took a private transfer to the hotel.
Checked in and kept the day light to recover from travel.

Day 2
We took a full day trip covering Oxford, Stratford upon Avon, Cotswolds, and Warwick Castle.
It was a long but efficient day combining countryside and history.

Day 3
We went for a structured London city tour.
This helped us understand the city layout early and made movement easier later.

Day 4
We did the Harry Potter tour.
It added variety and kept the experience engaging for all age groups.

Glasgow

Day 5
We travelled from London to Glasgow by train.
The journey was smooth. After check in, we kept the evening relaxed.

Day 6
We explored Glasgow using the hop on hop off bus.
This allowed flexibility and a slower pace compared to London.

Edinburgh

Day 7
We travelled from Glasgow to Edinburgh by train.
Short and seamless journey. Checked in and rested.

Day 8
We explored the city using a hop on hop off tour with a live guide.
We also did the Arthur’s Seat climb. It was tiring but rewarding, especially managing it with a young child.

Day 9
We took a private transfer to the airport and departed.

What Worked for Us

We kept the route linear with no backtracking.
We balanced guided tours with free time.
Train travel between cities was efficient and reliable.

Practical Tip

Before stepping out each day, we marked nearby restaurants and pharmacies on Google Maps. This reduced friction during travel.

Indian vegetarian food was easily available across all three cities, which helped maintain routine.

Final Thought

This itinerary worked because we did not try to cover everything. We focused on doing the right things in the right order, which made the journey smooth and manageable even with 2 kids , Yuvi (13) & YoYo (05) .
