Peace of Mind is an incorrect and contradictory Phrase

In today’s time, when we have practically accepted ‘Stress’ as undesirable but mandatory part of our lives,  there is not a single person on this planet who doesn’t want the so called “Peace of Mind”.

You too must have concluded on a certain bad day that to hell with money, cars, lavish homes – all you want is Peace of Mind which seems to be most difficult thing to have. Peace of Mind is probably one of the most common phrase used all over the world at present , thanks to the unnecessary complexities that have creeped into our lives due to various reasons.

And it is due to this “Peace of Mind”  that people are turning to Spirituality (a wrong reason for a right path ) .I too was one of those people but as I continued walking this spiritual path, I realized how foolish it is to even use this phrase .

Why?

Well answer lies in the phrase itself –  ‘Peace’     of       ‘Mind’   – You are placing Peace and Mind  in the same frame which is an  impossible permutation because what we call Peace is nothing but the absence of  the Mind .

So as long as this monkey, this bundle of thoughts called mind will exist , you can’t experience the feeling called peace.Yes, emotions like happiness  & joy can co-exist or are rather play-fields of mind, but you just can’t experience peace & ecstasy with mind.

So delete the notorious bad boy called Mind and experience Peace in full throttle.

But easier said then done,  is that even possible practically ? My answer won’t make any difference to you , why don’t you answer yourself by doing a simple exercise  –

Once you finish reading this blog,  try to be thoughtless just for 3-5 seconds, yes only that many seconds (as it is difficult to be thoughtless longer without meditation )..try doing it few times and eventually you can feel that slightest hint of emptiness , that soothing hollowness for fractions of second (remember you are thoughtless hardly for 5 seconds ,so fractions of seconds here are substantial). This emptiness, this hollowness (which in spiritual terms is divine)  is my friend what we all call Peace.

So guys, next time you look for Peace of Mind , please drop either of them to find the other !!

Namaste & take care  till my next post ! Would love to hear from you in the comments below !!

  1. That’s something to mull over indeed. But like you said – it’s easier said than done. The mind is such a convoluted busy place, I don’t think we can ever rid it of thoughts for more than a few minutes perhaps.
